The band's debut album 30 Seconds to Mars, produced by Bob Ezrin, was released in 2002 to mixed reviews and achieved sales of just over 100,000. Their sophomore album, A Beautiful Lie, was released on August 30, 2005. For this effort, the band traveled (during the course of three years) to four continents, to perfect their sound and also to allow for Jared's film career. The album was produced by Josh Abraham, whose producing credits also include Orgy, Velvet Revolver, and Linkin Park.

Folks talk a lot about fate and timing; two things OneRepublic knows quite well. Having ricocheted back-and-forth between near-success, disappointment, and fruition, OneRepublic has stayed true to their dreams - and seen them come true in ways they could never have imagined.
The band's lead vocalist, Ryan Tedder holds that "there are certain things that are within your control and that's how hard you work, how determined you are, how much you want it, but you can't control timing. It's going to happen when it's meant to happen, and right now, that's how it is for OneRepublic. It took a long time but all of this has come at the right time."
Known greatly for their hit single "Apologize," which was remixed by Timbaland, the band has had to fight its way out of being known as the "One Hit Wonders".
"As wonderful as 'Apologize' has been for us, I think any band is kind of afraid of their first single," he continued. "If it blows up enormously, it's a lot to live up to. Plus, you're also trying to solidify the fact that you're not a one-hit wonder. We want to move past that phase, to where people are like, 'OK, it's a legitimate band.'"
Luckily for the boys, there is very little they have to worry about. Their album Dreaming Out Loud has received massive critical acclaim and has also been topping charts all around the globe. Largely produced by Greg Wells and with a couple tracks produced by Tedder, that band chemistry is evident in the songs, such as the second single, "Stop And Stare," a fusion of anthemic guitars and insistent vocals, and the hushed ballad "Come Home" (one of three songs on the album produced by Tedder). Dreaming Out Loud introduces a group committed to the idea that people want real songs, with real truths, not marketing strategies.
When MTV.com interviewed Tedder to ask what kept the band focused amidst all the Timbaland hype, he said, "I think the single most important asset anybody could have in the entertainment business is objectivity. If you lose that, you lose perspective of who you are in this world, in relation to everybody else. And then you start to buy into all the crap. 'I was in Us Weekly this week for doing this,' or, 'I was hanging out with this person,' or, 'Paris hosted my birthday party' - all of that. It's absolutely meaningless, and if you don't hold onto that perspective, you end up buying into it and you lose your brain."

Before you start belting out Bow Wow's "I Want Candy", popularized in the late 1980s, and stomping your feet in a childish sugar-charged fit for Madonna's Hard Candy album, you first need to know that this album is hopelessly short of anything sweet, candy-flossed or French vanilla.
It's Madonna's much anticipated eleventh studio album and to suddenly take her whole image 360 is something even the most controversy-seeking 'goddess' of pop knows better than that not to do. No, Madonna has not ditched her ultra tight bondage stance and neither has she toned down on her crazy sexed up lyrics. But this time, she does it with more poise, taking literary metaphors to a whole new level. So what gives you the same rush that candy does? Think about it. Madonna's never been an angel.
That said, yes we get all the raw badness and horrid after-effects that Hard Candy has to offer. Which is just perfectly how we like our good ole' "cup of tea", Madonna.
From titles such as "4 Minutes", "Beat Goes On", "Dance 2Night" that take you straight to club mode right through to urban delights such as "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" and "Miles Away". Tunes of the latter were somewhat similar to that of her album Music. It really is one of those albums that keeps you entertained without wanting to switch tracks. Now something like this, only a timeless artist can achieve.
A bone that I have to pick on is why did Madonna choose to release "4 Minutes" as her first single? Did she really need the deadly combo of Justin Timberlake and Timbaland to perform successfully on the charts? Was she too afraid to come out with one of her own singles? I'm pretty sure if she hadn't jumped onto the JT cum Timbaland bandwagon, she would have garnered up a lot more critical acclaim with her album.
Nevertheless, this Hard Candy will definitely do well in stores!

System of a Down (commonly referred to as System or abbreviated as SOAD) is an American rock band, formed in 1995 in Glendale, California. They have released five albums and have become a staple on mainstream rock radio, breaking out with their 2001 hit "Chop Suey!". Their works have earned them three Grammy Award nominations, of which they won one.
System of a Down is very politically active and are noted for the liberal political views expressed in their songs, tackling several subjects including the War on Drugs, religion, drug use, and especially censorship. All Killer No Filler is the first full album by Sum 41, released on May 8, 2001 (see 2001 in music). The album was eventually certified platinum, selling over 1 million copies in the first few months of its release.
The album features lyrics with various subjects such as society, laziness, self-indulgence, relationships etc. On an episode of MTV Cribs featuring drummer Steve Jocz's house, frontman and guitarist Deryck Whibley said that the majority of the songs for All Killer No Filler were written in Steve's basement. The title may be a reference to the Jerry Lee Lewis album All Killer, No Filler: The Anthology.
As of 2006 the album has sold 2 million copies in USA and is 3x platinum in Canada, and 3.5 million world wide.
This is the second time "Summer" appeared on a Sum 41 album, the first being Half Hour of Power. The band planned to put the song on each of their albums as a joke, but scrapped the plan after All Killer No Filler.

Jones added that, in addition to the new songs he mentioned, the band had written a lot of new material which they intend to record early next year.
"September was spent in Terry Britten's amazing studio in Richmond. It's brimming with vintage gear, an old E.M.I desk(Pink Floyd -'Dark Side Of The Moon' era) and billions of guitars, old analogue gear, a treasure trove of effects pedals (Nick like a kid in a toy shop!)," he explained.
"The sessions have been pretty amazing, we certainly have an embarrassment of riches where material is concerned! We will need to do a lot of listening over the next few months before we reconvene in the new year to pull it all together! Plenty of hour long jams and killer choons! we just need to get the balance right."

Two London citizens, brothers Ray and Dave Davies, formed this band in 1963. At first, they called the command The Ravens, but soon changed the title for The Kinks. Since that time, the lineup of the band saw many replaces, but Davies brothers were the creative core of the band for decades.
When The Kinks began, young Rod Steward tried for the lead vocalist position in The Kinks. At first, the artists played blues, following the fashionable at the time US genre of rhythm-and-blues. However, they changed their sound to the harder side, recording protopunk single You Really Got Me. The song became a smash hit on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In 1965, The Kinks actively toured along the USA. Critics started to call the band one of the Big Four of British Invasion, putting it in one line with The Who, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Classical rock albums The Kink Kontroversy and Kinda Kinks became world best sellers. The phenomenon success of the band lead to the fact that it was prohibited to perform in the USA in the same 1965.
Having no opportunity to visit the USA, the artists got inspired by the English folk and national stage performances. It was obvious on their new disc Face To Face with the ironical hit Sunny Afternoon. The sound of The Kinks differed so much of the music of their colleagues, fascinated with the American psychedelia, that the band got the nickname of "The Most British Of All". In 1967, the song Waterloo Sunset was released, which was acknowledged as one of the most beautiful tracks about London. Soon after the conceptual release Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire), The Kinks were allowed to perform in the USA again - the musicians willingly started a lengthy tour across the country. The sound of The Kinks became harder - it can be well traced on their hit single Lola of 1970. In the beginning of 70's, Ray Davis was captured with the composition of rock operas. In order to perform such operas, the band drastically widened the lineup. However, the first try by Ray, called Preservation and available on the albums Preservation: Act 1 and Preservation: Act 2, was a complete failure.
The public perceived coldly several other analogous projects by The Kinks. By the beginning of 80's, the band came back to playing songs. The musicians got inspired with the new wave genre on their classical rock full-lengths State Of Confusion (with the hit song Come Dancing) and Word Of Mouth. The artists managed to get back their fame partly, but from the middle of 80's, the relations between Davies brothers began to worsen. In 1983, Ray Davies and Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders, became the parents of their daughter - since that, Ray started to pay more attention to his family than to The Kinks. In 1993, the last major release Phobia with the hit single Hatred (A Duet) saw light. In 1996, relations between Ray and Dave got so bad that they stopped to communicate. This resulted in The Kinks collapse. Both brothers concentrated in their solo projects and private life. In 2002, the collection of best songs The Kinks titled The Ultimate Collection was issued. It contains the hits by the artists for the period from their debut in 1964 to the disc Word Of Mouth. Hard rock composition You Really Got Me became the major hit - for the second time after it fascinated the listeners with its guitar solo in 60's.

The first lineup of this scandalously famous band consisted Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan and Toni McCarroll - all from The Rain band, which was renamed in Oasis after Liam Gallagher joined the command. In some time, Liam's elder brother Noel was added to the group - on the terms that he would become the soloist and major author of Oasis. Since that, Gallagher brothers were its unchangeable leaders.
It proved to be problematic to break through in the British scene, but in 1993, the band received the invitation to perform in the King Tut's Wah Wah Hut club in Glasgow. However, the musicians had to fight to enter the club, as the security refused to let them in saying they were not in the list. The concert was worth it, as Oasis caught the attention of right people on the scene and signed a recoding contract. Soon after it, the first Britpop singles Columbia, Supersonic and Shakermaker saw light. In September 1994, the band released the brilliant album Definitely Maybe that made Oasis famous in all over Britain. The hit Live Forever was followed by the first, but no ways last incident, featuring Oasis members - they were to make gigs in the Netherlands, but after a fight on the ferry-boat the musicians were refused to enter the country. After rock single Cigarettes And Alcohol and a softer Whatever hit, Oasis toured the USA, where Noel and Liam had a serious argue.
In 1995, the artists recorded the new disc (What's The Story) Morning Glory? with the single Some Might Say. That year Oasis was left by Toni McCarroll, who was substituted by Alan White. That summer, Oasis headlined the Glastonbury festival, where a competition between Oasis and other Britpop band Blur started. The so-called The Battle Of Britpop finished with the victory of Oasis, as there were sold more copies of their disc (What's The Story) Morning Glory? than of Blur's The Great Escape. In 1997, the new full-length Be Here Now hit the shelves, preceded by the rumors of the Oasis collapse. The disc differed from the previous ones with harder sounding and elaborated arrangements. After the hit All Around The World with a video, made in the manner of Yellow Submarine of greatly admired by Oasis The Beatles, the band announced the hiatus. However, Gallagher brothers continued to enter tabloids for their indecent behavior. In 1999, the band stated that it got down to their new work. The record was interrupted because Noel and Liam had to look for a substitute for two members - both Paul McGuigan and Paul Arthurs left Oasis. Colin Archer became the new rhythm-guitarist of the band, while Andy Bell took the bass.
In February 2000, the record Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants saw light. It was filled with psychedelic experiments and produced Go Let It Out single. The following world tour was highlighted with scandals. Thus, Noel Gallagher and that-time Oasis member Alan White divorced with their wives. Closer to the end of the tour, Alan had to leave the band due to health problems and his brother Steve changed him on his place. After the tour, the musicians went to the studio and recorded their new album Heathen Chemistry. The disc was released in 2002 and musically had a significant flavor of 60's and 70's. The tour around the US was full of scandals and several Oasis concerts in Germany were cancelled because the band members took an active part in a big fight in one nightclub of Munich. After the tour, the band went on a hiatus. In 2005, the artists made a forceful comeback with the excellent album Don't Believe The Truth with pop-rock smash hits Lyla, The Importance Of Being Idle and Let There Be Love. Before the record was released, Steve White exited Oasis and Zak Starkey, the son of the famous The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, became the drummer of the group. In 2006, the collection of the best hits by Oasis Stop The Clocks was released. In 2007, the artists announced they went into the studio to work on the new long-play. In 2008, Starkey left the band due to a conflict with Noel and Chris Sherrock, who worked with Robbie Williams before, took the drums for Oasis.

Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland met at the University College London during their study years. At first, they formed the duo called Pectoralz, but later renamed the collective in Starfish after their school friend Guy Berryman joined the group. The trio started giving concerts in local small clubs. In the beginning of 1998, Will Champion entered the collective. Initially he was going to be the drummer, but after he learned how to play the drums, he became the guitarist, bassist and keyboardist for the band. Soon after Champion joined the command, it was renamed in Coldplay - the artists got this title from the other band that refused from it, considering it "too depressive". The same year, Coldplay recorded its first EP Safety, which brought the band the contract with the independent label Fierce Panda. By that moment the artists were finishing the college - they switched to major studio Parlophone after they graduated.
The Bigger Stronger single from The Blue Room EP, which followed the band's appearance at the Glastonbury festival, focused the attention of the British audience on the young command. However, the members of Coldplay had so many conflicts during the recording sessions of this EP that the band was on the brink of collapse. Luckily, the quartet managed to eliminate all the disagreements and concentrated on the work over the debut album. The first full-length of this rock command titled Parachutes became the hit not only in England, but also in the USA - after their support tour for Parachutes. The brightest hit from the album was melodic pop track Yellow. Coldplay's forceful comeback to Glastonbury became the pure triumph. In June 2004, the X&Y was released - it became the best-selling album of 2005 in the world. The album produced three piercing rock hits: Speed Of Sound, Fix You and Talk. After the third release, Coldplay went on the Twisted Logic Tour. The rockers also have recommended themselves as the regular guests of various charity festivals and social activists for different organizations. In April 2006, Martin became the father for the second time - Gwyneth gave birth to their son Moses. After the tour along the South America, Coldplay got down to the new record, baring the title of Viva La Vida. It was released in June 2008. Chris Martin stated that this album would differ from the previous works in its style. He also added that on the new disc he changed his falsetto in the favor of the lower range.

MUMBAI: Music label major T-Series has acquired 14 films from UTV for about Rs 30 crore. This is a first-of-its-kind deal as bulk deals are uncommon in the music industry. The deal includes Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Dilli 6, the Salman-Kareena starrer Main Aur Mrs Khanna, Fashion, Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D, Oye Lucky and Bombay Meri Jaan, to name a few.
“This is certainly one of the biggest deals that the music industry has witnessed so far,” said UTV CEO Siddharth Roy Kapoor. He did not divulge any commercial details. T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar said: “Usually, music companies do not get into bulk deals, but since we share a good equation with UTV, we decided to get into a long-term multiple deal.”
The move also signifies the growing competition in the music industry, with several music firms competing with each other for the same slate of movies. “By getting into large bulk deals, we manage to corner a larger share of titles,” added Mr Kumar.
Music has become a key component of Bollywood, as it plays a critical role in a film’s success. T-Series has a slate of films lined up for the next quarter and the line-up has been strengthened with this acquisition. The aim is to ensure a dominant market share in the coming years.
The deal may mark the beginning of a trend where production houses will get into bulk deals with music companies and may look at strategic alliances to ensure a continuous pipeline of music. The deal with UTV includes physical and digital music publishing rights of the films. UTV’s recently-launched digital music arm will not have any access to the publishing rights of the 14 films.
My Chemical Romance are gearing up for the release of their forthcoming CD/DVD 'The Black Parade Is Dead' by previewing five minutes of footage online.
The footage, which includes a live performance of 'Welcome To The Black Parade' is taken from the two-hour long DVD and was filmed at a string of performances including their show at Palacio de los Deportes sports arena in Mexico City in October 2007) and their intimate performance at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ the same month.
The footage can been seen on Buzznet, and in addition, fans can enter a competition to win a limited edition prize pack, which includes hand painted 'Day of the Dead' masks, three downloadable live tracks and a death certificate for each member of the band.
'The Black Parade Is Dead' is scheduled to be released July 1.
Former Blink-182 man speaks about My Chemical Romance and 'emo' suicide

Former Blink 182 guitarist and vocalist Tom DeLonge has spoken out about the recent controversy surrounding My Chemical Romance and their suggested links with 'emo' suicides.
DeLonge told Buzznet that he had experienced similar controversy while in his former band. He defended My Chemical Romance, saying there was nothing abnormal about the content of their lyrics.
"The same sort of thing [being blamed for fans' behaviour] happened to me with Blink," he said, "so I can understand what it's like to be a part of something like that.
"We had a victim of the Columbine shootings take his life with our song on repeat. You kinda go through these situations where you blame yourself, but you can't.
"You have no idea who these people are. And My Chemical Romance, they spend a lot of time singing about coming together. There's ingredients of rebellion and angst, but what band doesn't have that when you're young?"
My Chemical Romance fans recently protested about the media's depiction of the band in London.
Emo music was recently criticised by sections of the media after Hannah Bond, a 13 year-old emo fan from Kent, committed suicide.
Guitar Hero is moving out of the basements and into the bars.
After all, what good is playing the Activision video game enough to reach Iron Maiden's "The Number of the Beast" if you can't show off your shredding skills in front of your friends and a bar full of strangers?
"It's the new hit, especially with the younger kids, the 21-to-25 crowd," says Anthony Tartaglia, manager of The Nutty Irishman in Bay Shore. "We've been doing it a few months, and the crowd really seems to like it."
Part of the success comes from familiarity. Since it debuted in 2005, the Guitar Hero franchise has sold more than 14 million copies, with revenue already topping $1 billion. When Guitar Hero 3 went on sale in October, it netted $115 million in sales in its first week and quickly became 2007's biggest-seller, even though it was only available for the last two months of the year.
Maybe more important, though, taking their Guitar Hero moves to the bars adds another level of fantasy to the game. "We put them on the stage," Tartaglia says. "We get the smoke machine going. We get the lights going. They get to see it all on a 10-foot screen. It's a big deal."
After all that, can Guitar Hero groupies really be that far behind?

B.B. King was awarded the key to the city Saturday at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.
The blues elder statesman received the honor from Mayor Betty Superstein on the festival main stage near the top of his set, pausing to accept the plaque and thank Superstein while the crowd roared.
King, 82, took a wheel chair to get to the stage at Bonnaroo, the annual festival held in the Tennessee countryside south of Nashville. King walked slowly onto the stage where he took his perch on a chair with his prized guitar, Lucille.
But the legendary bluesman showed that his fingers haven't showed a bit of aging. As he has throughout his long career, he never hit a wrong note.
Sitting, King wondered if the crowd might be thinking he must be very old to be unable to stand up and play.
"I say to you, you're just about right," said King, who rattled off his list of ailments: diabetes, a bad back, bad knees, among them.
"I can't remember anything, but I can remember that I am now 82-years-old," he said, as the audience cheered.
King also did a bit of schooling, asking the youngish crowd if they realized that Bono from U2 had written his classic tune "When Love Comes to Town" specifically for him.
"Do you know U2?" asked King, bulging his eyes. "That was me. I say, that was me!"

MANCHESTER, Tenn. (AP) — Pearl Jam wowed the Bonnaroo crowd with a three-hour performance late Saturday, returning the band to the grand stage of a music festival.
In the midst of their concert — which went almost an hour longer than scheduled — lead singer Eddie Vedder acknowledged that the band thought they might never again play such a show — and "with good reason." In the summer of 2000, nine fans were trampled during Pearl Jam's performance at Denmark's Roskilde Festival — an experience that shook the band.
There were no mishaps at Bonnaroo, though, and Vedder's faith in festivals appeared to be restored.
"After seeing B.B. King and Jack Johnson and Cat Power, it makes you realize how it can work and be really ... great," Vedder said, referring to acts that played earlier Saturday. Pearl Jam also played Lollapalooza last year.
If he wasn't already, Vedder appeared completely converted to the joys of mega festivals when the band played "Better Man." The audience sang along and lifted lighters in the air, and only then did Vedder realize how large the crowd was. He muttered "That's ... beautiful."
Pearl Jam was the main stage headliner Saturday at the annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, which is held on a giant 700-acre site south of Nashville.
The Friday night bill was led by comedian Chris Rock, who was followed by Metallica. Though the heavy metal band played a generally admired set, the Pearl Jam audience seemed larger and arguably more enthusiastic.
Vedder spoke frequently on politics and the need for change.
"It is proven that this many people can change world," Vedder said to the tens of thousands. "This has to be the time. It can't get any worse."
Others playing Saturday included Ben Folds, Against Me!, Sigur Ros and B.B. King, who was honored with the key to Manchester by the city's mayor, Betty Superstein. King, 82, showed his age by performing — as he has for years — seated. He rattled off a list of ailments: diabetes, a bad back, bad knees.
"I can't remember anything, but I can remember that I am now 82 years old," he said as the audience applauded. King showed he could still put on an excellent show.
Early Saturday began with a deluge that came while My Morning Jacket performed their late night set through the early morning hours. The Louisville-based outfit is something like the Bonnaroo house band; this was their fifth time at the festival.
Though the heat had broken, the band's singer Jim James led them into a cover of Sly and the Family Stone's "Hot Fun in the Summertime," and later, a funky cover of Funkadelic's classic "Hit it and Quit." My Morning Jacket, long a rising star, again cemented its reputation as a pre-eminent live performer.
The sun later emerged as Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings brought their warm, old-school soul to the Bonnaroo masses, who cheered wildly.
"I wear this dress so I can shake it," Jones informed the crowd, calling it her "Tina Turner dress".
The four-day festival was to come to a close Sunday with performances scheduled for Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Death Cab for Cutie and Widespread Panic, among others.
